The Fassisi LeishMa is a immunochromatographic rapid test that detects Leishmania antibodies in the blood of dogs.

Leishmaniasis is a chronic, incurable infectious disease transmitted by the sand mosquito. Dogs from the Mediterranean region that have been imported should be tested for leishmaniasis in particular, because the sand mosquito lives in warm regions. But also in Germany, the sand mosquito has natural populations in selected regions such as Kaiserslautern and Saarbrücken. The sandmosquito is also expected to spread further north due to the global warming for example.

Leishmaniasis is incurable but treatable. While an untreated animal with disease-specific symptoms usually dies within six to twelve months, a treated animal can live a nearly symptom-free life. The risk of the infection of other animals is also lower in treated dogs.

As with the Fassisi LeishMa test, antibody detection is used as a common method for detecting leishmaniasis. In this procedure, the serological antibodies are detected in the blood serum. Due to its high sensitivity and specificity, antibody detection is considered quite reliable.
